Alongside ceramics, Mycology is a deep fascination of mine. Foraging, Identifying and learning about mushrooms is one of my favorite hobbies during the non-winter seasons. Each one of the mushrooms bears some importance to me, weather it be the first mushroom i learned to identify (Old-man-of-the-woods) or one of the most famous mushrooms (Fly Amanita). As for the chess style set up, that’s a small homage to my time at peters valley where everyone wanted to make chess sets that were in their style, so to speak. The word Manepaizo is a word i created. derived from the greek words μανιτάρι (manitári), meaning mushroom, and παίζω (paízo), meaning play.
