Thrown pitchers with ceramic glaze

Contemporary: h: 7” D: 5” | Tradition: H: 7.25” D: 5.25”

This project went through many iterations before it ended up here. It started with greek amphorae, then fibonacci designs and a whole bunch of stumbling blocks then on. I was working hard on a glaze of my own design, called Aspis Float, and I really wanted to use it on the original pitcher. But, my throwing skills are just not good enough to create a beautiful greek style amphora, so I took this project in a whole new direction. Pitting the Traditional and well known against the new and strange is a fun dichotomy i don’t get to play with often. By allowing unpredictable bubbles and running to contrast with the very stable crystaline mattes, i create a contrast between colors, textures, expectations, and ideas.
