Strain

Handbuilt ceramic, Red and Buff clay, Gloop and runny glazes

approx H: 13" D: 13.25"

While making this piece, gravity was the driving force of inspiration. I wanted to not only capture physical gravity, but emotional gravity too. The gloop and runny glazes are really what captured the physicality of gravity, but the colors, overall form and cracks are what create the harmony of emotional strain. The story of this piece comes from a very personal and strenuous time in my life and I wanted to tell that story without blatantly saying every word. Using bright colors and glazes with interesting effects along side broken and twisting forms is how i chose to write this story out.
