Something I've always wanted to tackle is how to display my glaze research more effectively. After a good deal of contemplation i chose to display my glazes in the forms of pendants. With this idea, I created plaster molds of 4 styles of pendants in 3 sizes. After cleaning up the molded pendants and adding a hole for the string to pass through, i fired them as normal. The glazing is where it gets interesting because glazes perform very differently depending on thickness, and what I was doing was essentially an incredibly thick layer. After the glaze firing, I was surprised at the amount of bubbling some had, and that some had major color changes, and some glazes shrank so much that there was a centimeter of clay body above the glaze layer. With that being said, I tackled the finishing process with lots of grinding, polishing, and sealing with epoxy resin. Some I turned into earrings with earring posts and the rest i kept as pendants. This was an incredible learning experience and I hope to continue this line of work.
