Mugshrooms

Slab Built and Sprig Stoneware, Ceramic Glaze

H: 5.5” D(mug core): 4” L(widest point): 8”

Mugshrooms were distilled from my love of mushrooms into a set of semi-functional mugs. I find mushrooms and all aspects of mycology fascinating, and when we were tasked with using plater t create molds in my first ceramics studio of 2022, I knew what I wanted to do immediately. Lots of decision making, sketches and research later, I made these mugs that look like decayed logs with mushrooms growing out of the sides. I decided to model the mug bodies after oak and birch trees because they contrast nicely with the mushrooms (which are resinous polypore, pheasant’s back, lion’s mane and old man of the woods inside).
